Freshwater Turtle provided an oily meat with a strong chicken like flavour and was traditionally cooked upside down on hot coals. They live in swamps, lagoons and billabongs and were caught by the women who waded into the water and felt around for their smooth hard shell.

One of the best places to view the Freshwater Turtle is at Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast.

Hawksbill Turtle live and breed along Australia’s northern coastline. Turtle eggs are highly prized for their rich flavour and nutritional value.
