Foods occurring naturally across Australia sometimes need treatment to make them edible and Australian Aboriginals knew the methods. It could be a long and tedious process, sometimes taking days. But the key driving factor was survival. Just because the wildlife eats something, doesn’t make it palatable nor safe for humans.
The aim of this section of our website is to highlight the commercially lesser available bush foods. In many cases the foods may be located on Aboriginal Land so you would need to check permissions etc before entering.
